The basis of NPT is simple. Accept everyone and everything, and witness the miracles of change as it comes. Both women previously worked as ABA therapists but something never “clicked” with the methods they were trained to teach. While both women thouroughly enjoyed working with their clients, they felt something was lacking, or better yet, the therapy they were providing just didn’t sit right. The passion was there, but the philosophy of the therapy they were trained to provide didn’t seem to fit what they both knew in their hearts was right for them.
After a destined meeting in August of 2010, these two women decided they were both put here on this earth for a reason, and knew they had to develop an approach to meet their passion. Both possessing an immeasurable gratitude for all of the lessons their past clientele taught them, they were determined to create a therapy aimed at helping not only the child, but the family and loved ones as well. NPT is based on friendship, compassion, and acceptance. Its sole intent is to encourage and inspire each and every individual, whether on the spectrum or not, to be the very best version of themselves as possible.
As we all know, routines and goals are important. They provide all of us with a sense of security and aim. However, every so often we get caught up with focusing on a goal, or get lost in the “same old routine”. We focus so much on what we SHOULD be doing, that we overlook all of the beauty around us. NPT values the present moment, and aims to steer us all back to the here and now, encouraging us to find the pleasure in what we do have, and to reach a sense of gratitude for all of our experiences. Of course dealing with autism has its many challenges. However NPT prefers to shift our outlook of “dealing” with autism to “experiencing” autism. The time has come to stop “fighting” what is, and to let go of the things we can not change.
What if just for today we all agreed to view autism as a blessing in our lives? If we took the time to shift our focus on all of the positives we are experiencing and release our attachment to the negative aspects of this diagnosis? What if we viewed our children as teachers instead of students? Isn’t it possible after all that this “mystery” could actually be a great gift, a chest just waiting to be unlocked so all of its treasures can be revealed? Our children have the key, we just need to convince them that we are ready to experience these wonders, and assure them that we are not only worthy, but we will appreciate all of the secrets they have to offer. Provide them with a sense of gratitude and little by little they will begin to trust us.
NPT was founded on trust. Trust in a greater good, no matter what faith you may or may not possess. After all, to us, faith in your child is all that really matters. It is our responsibility to provide children, on or off the spectrum, with a sense that they belong. They matter. They can achieve anything and everything they want. Positivity breeds positive results, and if there is one thing NPT therapists believe it is that every child will undoubtedly succeed with the right degree of coaching. It is not about the end result, it is about the incredible journey we are all here to experience. It is not our job to “fix” anyone, because who is to say anyone deserves to be “fixed”? When you think about it, the idea of altering a child to fit into a society plagued with issues of anxiety, depression, stress, and other issues is a bit insane. However if we can prove to our children that our world is also filled with beauty, joy, acceptance, and compassion, wouldn’t they will be more willing to connect?
NPT therapists do not want to “fix” anyone, we just want to help and encourage all individuals to be the best they can be. We provide a naturalistic approach and develop programs based on the individual. We aim to build on the strengths our children already possess and provide them with the tools that will help them to achieve their goals. Through play, we connect, encourage, teach, and learn. We are here to provide inspiration and information. Join us on our journey, and experience the joy and pride in helping your children be the very best version of themselves they can be.
Never give up and never stop playing!
